“Gardening is the purest of human pleasures.”
~ Francis Bacon

In my opinion, Francis Bacon was a very wise man. Gardening for some is therapy, for others is a source of food, and for all the “purest of human pleasures.”

With those words of inspiration, here are July’s 6 gardening tips and tricks.

  1. Plant mature vegetable plantsAccording to GardeningTips.org here are some vegetables to plant this month. If you choose to plant mature plants, then you will likely be able to harvest these vegetables before the first frost this fall.
    • Broccoli
    • Carrots
    • Turnips
    • Radishes
    • Lettuce
  2. Install Rootwells and RootsticksThese ingenious direct to root watering systems will ensure that no matter what kind of hot temperatures we face this summer, your trees, shrubs, plants will make it through the summer by receiving water, oxygen and nutrients directly to the root system. 3. Grow Grass LongerAllow your grass to grow a little longer than you would normally. You might even want to set your lawn mower at the highest level. This will provide you lawn with a little shade for the roots.
  4. Water your lawn either at dawn or dusk The disadvantage of watering during the day is the water will reflect the sun and scorch your lawn. The disadvantage of watering when the sun is all the way down is that it might cause possibility mold might start to grow.
  5. Water using Rootwells and RootsticksIf you are facing a drought or if rain has been sparse, pour water down the Rootwell and Rootsticks. By doing this, you ensure that water is reaching the root zone of your trees and plants.
  6. Remove plant suckersJuly is a great month to remove the suckers from roses and other plants. Plant suckers drain the original plant’s energy and may weaken the plant’s growth.

Do you have any July gardening tips or tricks to add to the list? Do you find that you agree with Francis Bacon as well?
