Are you looking forward to mowing your lawn?

Wondering how long you should wait to transplant your citrus trees?

The winter months are well behind us and the spring gardening season is here. Today, we are sharing with our friends in the Southwest region of the U.S. gardening tips and tricks for the month of April.

Landscaping Tips

  • It is time to start mowing your lawn. Make sure that when you mow you are only removing one-third of the overall lengthen of the grass. This will help to ensure your lawn still healthy and green longer.
  • If you would like to lay down sod for a new lawn, wait until the end of April to do it.
  • Remember to get any mulch down before the summer’s heat arrives. Use an organic matter mulch to help retain moisture.
  • Install aeration tubes for any trees, shrubs or plants. Aeration tubes come in handy during the summer’s heat because they allow you to feed water to your foliage at the root zone, no matter the weather.

Fruits and Vegetables Tips

  • According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, once your citrus trees are 2-4 years in age, it’s a great time to transplant them.
  • Great vegetables to plant this month are bean, carrots, sunflowers, cucumbers and melons.
  • Better Homes and Gardens recommend that if you live in the High Desert, to plant radishes and lettuce and wait another 2-4 weeks before planting warm season vegetables.

Annual Tips

  • This week is a great time to dig up the cold-season annuals and plant annuals that will be able to last through the heat. A few examples are salvia, petunias, and marigolds.
  • Remember when you do plant the annuals to plant them deep and directly into the soil and keep the soil moist.

General April Gardening Tips

  • As the days grow longer make sure to keep watering your plants and lawn.
