August Gardening Tips
Landscaping Tips:
It is almost time to start planting trees. This month, take the time to research what types of trees grow well in your area and which ones you would love to plant.

Fruit and Vegetable Tips:
The Old Farmer’s Almanac recommends planting the following vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, bush beans, cucumbers, squash and onions.
If you are planting herb transplants, you can plant rosemary, ginger and Mexican tarragon.

Perennial and Annual Tips:
Plant these perennials and annuals this month: zinnia, marigold, celosia and lilies.
Consider sowing wildflowers this year because right now is the perfect time to do so. Plus they add that something extra to your yard. Wildflowers like, bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and coreopsis.
General Gardening Tips:
Organic Gardening recommends staking all tall plants. This way they won’t get blown over in a storm. Examples of such tall plants are sunflowers, sweet peppers and tithonia.
Better Homes and Gardens lists the following plants as the best plants for the Southern August Garden: Mexican bush sage, Dahlia, Ornamental grasses, Showy sedum and Garden mums.
