  1. There are two different kinds of cucumbers: slicing and pickling. Each come in several different varieties. If you choose the slicing varieties know that these will usually grow between 6-8 inches long. If you choose the cucumbers to pickle they will grow between 3-4 inches long.

  2. Cucumbers can be growing in pots, raised beds, directly in the ground. If you want to save some space in your garden, these crunchy fruits do great trellised up.

  4. You can plant your cucumbers in rows, or on hills. Choosing to plant your cucumber plants on hills helps to make sure there is adequate drainage.

  12. To harden off your cucumber seedlings, place them outside for a few days before you place them in the garden.
  13. Add organic compost to your cucumber seedlings to help get them off to a great start.
  14. Before planting your seeds, make sure to remove any rocks or sticks.
  15. Pick and eat cucumbers early and often to help maintain their supply. The more you pick the more they will grow.
  16. When you harvest your cucumbers, you can cut them directly off the stem. Make sure to not damage the rest of the plant as they will continue to produce fruit for you all summer long. You can use scissors to help make sure a clean break.
  17. If you notice a powdery mildew on the leaves of this plant, it might be a sign of dry soil. If this is late in the season, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium cucumbers chopped, seeded, and peeled
  • 2 medium tomatoes chopped
  • ½ Cup chopped green or red peppers
  • 2 garlic cloves minced

  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon of freshly picked parsley and cilantro
