How to Grow Avocados – The Easy Way

Are you looking for an easy to grow plant that you can eat?
For most of us, it is the end of the work week and the beginning of the holiday weekend. First, let me start off by saying Happy 4th of July. I hope you enjoy a safe holiday.
Today, is Beginner Wednesday. That means we have found something that is easy to plant and if you’re new to gardening – it’s perfect for you. Did you know you can actually grow your own avocados? Not only that, but there is a way that makes it really easy.
What you need to know about growing avocados the easy way.
- Buy a mature avocado plant from a garden nursery. If you try to grow the avocado plant from seedling, it could take up to 7 years to produce any fruit. The more mature the tree, the sooner you will get to eat avocados.
Hubpages has a great recommendation about the placement of the tree:
Do not plant an avocado in the lawn, as it will not grow well in competition with grass. It should be in a garden with plenty of compost, and sheltered from frost and wind. Each tree needs from 1/3 to ½ a pound of nitrogen annually, but not all at once.”
- Avocados need lots of water. Install Rootsticks all around the smaller trees. As the trees grow larger, install Rootwell Pro318s.
