Landscaping Tips

  • This is a great month to enjoy some color in your yard, whether the color is coming from trees, shrubs or flowers. Better Homes and Gardens suggest crape myrtle, desert willow, asters, purple coneflowers, and Russian sage for that extra pop of color.
  • Install with aeration tubes when planting trees, shrubs and flowers. These tubes can help water your foliage in times of drought and have actually by scientifically proven to increase root growth and above ground growth.

Fruit and Vegetable Tips

  • According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the best time to harvest garlic and onions is this month when their tops are starting to bend over.
  • This is a great time to plant any tomatoes, peppers or eggplants if you have transplants.
  • Start seeding pumpkins and squash.

Perennial/Annual Tips

  • It’s time for a little summer clean up and to prepare your garden for any fall planting.
  • Plant iris and daylillies this month.
  • To encourage new growth, make sure to clean up any dead or dying flowers.

  • Don’t be shy with adding mulch. Not only does mulch look great but it also provides a lot of benefits, like cooling the roots of the plants and even reducing soil temperatures. Plus it helps the soil to retain moisture.
